Music

Music has always been a big part of what makes televison popular.  Many musicians have participated in this project not only by expressing their opinions but also by performing their music for the soundtrack.  As the editing process continues, complete versions of their performances will be made available through this site.

Humberto Luis Schenone

Picture
Percussionist and multi-instrumentalist, Humberto Luis Schenone creates amazing soundscapes influenced by his native Argentina.  He has been in  several bands related with afro-percussion, bossa nova, samba, salsa, rock, south-american folk, tango, and much more.  He has graciously allowed me to use music from his album "Um Perto - A Percussion Trip".  Do check out more of his music.  There is a go-to in the Links page.

Robbie Rox

Robbie has been an inspiration to me since I first snuck into a bar (underage) to see him perform, probably around the time his hit song "Pantission My Cushion" was getting airplay.  I've always considered him to be Canada's louder and ruder version of Frank Zappa.  Over the years we have worked on feature films together (he's a great actor, too) and I have cast him in many of my own projects.  It was a pleasure and a privilege to have him perform acoustic numbers for this project's soundtrack.  His insights into the kind of people you meet working in the industry were pure gold ... they will be an unforgettable part of the documentary.

Clifton Joseph

For many years Clifton Joseph has been shaking up the music and poetry scene in Canada.  He is also an accomplished journalist and writer.  His poem "That Night in Tunisia" is a brilliant tongue-lashing of how corporate greed feeds on pop culture's need for heroes.  In the documentary, he has a distinctive perspective and some choice words for what's going on in the television industry.

The Phonebooth Criminals

The Phonebooth Criminals are an incredibly talented group of young performers.  The story of their genesis is best told by them;  this is from their website ... "We're an up and coming band from Toronto. We all attend Rosedale heights school of the arts. It all started with me Brown Thunder meeting Zack Harrison our guitar player and one of my classes. I heard him wailing away at the piano one day so I asked if he wanted to jam and it was magic. We were then on the hunt for a drummer and vocalist, we had a female vocalist for a while but it just didnt work out. We found our drummer in a cave(Eli Kelly) banging away at stones, and trying to make fire for himself. Eventually we brought him to the 21st century and is now fully capable of handaling himself behind a drum kit. As for our piano player, he arrived off of a space ship from the planted Ukastoka and we decided to abduct him, yes thats right we abducted him, and now he plays piano for us aha. Thats how we got started and we're still rollin"

For more info their myspace page is in the "links" menu.

It is a great privilege to have The Phonebooth Criminals performing in this project.  In the not so distant future we'll all be saying "we knew them when ..."
